Deep-Fried Creative Editions
Bouncing Around the Blogosphere debuted on the World Wide Web on another awesome blog, Deep-Fried Creative. Here is an archive of those posts.
4.10.09 Swiss Miss
Swiss Miss is a design blog by an actual, really real Swiss Miss who relocated to New York City. Her block is chock full of fun things to look at.
4.15.09 Veer: The Skinny & The Fat
The Skinny is for Veer staffers who post about the best new photos, illustrations, etc. from Veer as well as things that inspire them. (Veer is a service that supplies rights-managed/royalty-free content for design and creativity.)
The FAT is open to the Veer community at large (that means you) and seems to serves as a treasure trove of illustrators for hire.
4.21.09 Toe-riffic Traveling Toe
Sometimes you just need a good laugh. Hence, this blog pick. This blog was created as a high school class project and basically consists of Mr. Toe there traveling the world. I think he looks like Donahue.
4.29.09 Tropical Toxic
Tropical Toxic is a process blog for illustrators Tomer and Asaf Hanuka. In addition to their work for books, magazines and newspapers, they also contributed their talents to the animated film “Waltz with Bashir,” which won a Golden Globe for best foreign film. Tomer and Asaf do a great job of taking their readers through their creative process, showing roughs, thumbnails and the final product. Warning: some posts are NOT PG-13.
5.12.09 The Dieline
I, for one, am a sucker and a half when it comes to packaging. So when I bumped into The Dieline, I was captivated. Talk about eye candy. This blog is all about the packaging design industry, and each post is something to feast your eyes on.
6.10.09 Improv Everywhere
If you’re in search of antics, this is a blog for you! Improv Everywhere isn’t new. They’ve been around and making waves in public water fountains since ’05, but they were new to me. This NYC-based group specializes in “causing scenes of chaos and joy in public places.” You’ll get a kick out of reading their posts, which include stories about synchronized swimming in a public fountain, organizing a group of 50 redheads to protest Wendy’s “racist” logo and infiltrating a Best Buy store with 80 people dressed in khakis and blue shirts. Pretty hilarious stuff.
7.7.09 Oh Joy!
The name says it all. Looking at this blog’s content, which ranges from art, design, photography, stationary, fashion, accessories, packaging, interiors, is simply a joy.
7.24.09 Recycle LACMA
Recyle LACMA is Los Angeles-based artist Robert Fontenot’s chronicle of his efforts to find new uses for old, unwanted items he purchased from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art earlier this year. Every scrap of material must be used and each new creation is tagged with the accession number. What a neat idea. I love, love, love, scolling down for the little reveal of what was made from the pre-existing items. Some of my favorites so far: a lined coat that was turned into a child’s lion costume and a dress transformed into a bandoleer.
8.18.09 Toolmonger
This one’s for the boys. Or the ladies, if they happen to be tool connousours, too. This blog, while Greek to me, is jam-packed with lots of good content and neat features. You can find tools by brand, type or retailer, and projects run the gamut from building bookcases to building your own custom, full-sized wireless Guitar Hero controller.
9.11.09 Mad Men
I like”Mad Men.” I like the way it looks. I like how so much is said in what isn’t said. And I like how a show set in the ’60s is utilizing something as newfangled as social media. Yes, I follow Peggy Olsen on Twitter. I also follow a few Mad Men-related blogs. These are what I consider to be the top three.

This blog explains a lot of the show’s cultural references that might go flying over your head if you weren’t around in the ’60s or didn’t pay attention in American History. It also offers up read ads of the age as well as art and design references.
All the other mommies are doing it. Why shouldn’t Betty Draper be a mommy blogger, too? The only bad thing about this blog is that the updates are few and far between.
(EDITOR’S NOTE: So, while I thought ”Welcome to the Drapers” was a neat blog when I initially came across it–and I still do think it’s a good idea–the blog is not updated frequently enough to make it what I could consider a good blog to read. So, enter at your own risk.)

There’s also a “What Would Roger Sterling Do?,” “What Would Joan Hollaway Do?” etc., etc. This one isn’t much to look at; Joan’s is much more visual. But I found this one to be the most interesting read. And it’s dry, sardonic wit is smack dab on character.
9.16.09 Terrible Yellow Eyes
Of all the Bouncing Around the Blogosphere posts I’ve written, this one is by far my favorite. Blog creator Cory Godbey invited select artists to create artwork based on Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are.” For me, this blog was love at first sight, and I’m so thrilled to hear that some of the works will be featured in an exhibition.
